On The Hunt: Zella Leggings and Jesus

Happy Friday, Loves! Let’s get riiiiiight into it!

ZELLA LEGGINGS

Am I the last woman alive who doesn’t own Nordstrom’s Zella Leggings?? Don’t answer that. Every blogger I know has mentioned buying them, loving them, and buying more. I even put them in my cart last week when I was going through a major shopping spree (MUST.BUY.EVERYTHING.) But, then I looked at my current legging collection, and my alter ego, Alexis, came out and was all, “Girl, where u gonna put them at? Yeah, thas right, you got no room in them draws.” Ugh. Who invited her?

Thank God I have a birthday coming up in June…

Apparently, the original Zella Live In High Waist Leggings are the perfect length for petite girls. Perfect! I’m 5′-2″!

But I also really like the look of an ankle pant, so maybe the Zella Live In 7/8 Leggings?

And for those of you who love pockets, the Zella Live In POCKET 7/8 Leggings!

SPANX LEGGINGS

Again, have I been living under a rock? How could I not have a pair of these Faux Leather lovlies?Or these slimming Faux Leather Moto mamas? Oh, that’s because I have at least 3 moto/faux leather style pants in my “draws” already. But, I need them, OK??Wait…what the ?? Did you know Spanx sells jeans?! Like, really, really cute Distressed Skinny Jeans?! Should I be ashamed of myself for A. Not knowing this and B. Wanting a pair? Again, don’t answer that. Good thing I’m looking for Jesus, because He’s the only one that can stop me now…

JESUS

In theory, we all “need Jesus”. So, on my hunt to find Him, I came across these super cute inspirational tees. The past few years has got me l-o-v-i-n-g Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, not to harm you” and so, this darling tee from ButterflyDesignCo on Etsy is the perfect way to remind myself of that every time I wear it! And how cute does it look with some Converse sneakers and a plaid shirt (and some ripped jeans – obvi…)?

This is also a really cute option from EllyandGrace on Etsy

I’m also seriously vibing on Ephesians 3:20, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine”, so this sweatshirt, also from ButterflyDesignCo does the trick.

OK, NOW I’ve found Jesus!

Happy Shopping!

On The Hunt: Distressed Boyfriend Jeans, Leopard Flats, and Off-The-Shoulder White Top

Every weekend I’m going to write about the things that I’m craving in more consistent “On The Hunt” posts! Let’s dive right in!

Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

Even as I’m typing this, I literally can’t believe that I’m looking for glorified mom jeans! 😂 Often, I think about different styles from my past and how at that time I would have been mortified to wear certain clothes that I wear now. Alternately, I think about how mortified I would be today if I had to parade around town in pedal pushers and a fuzzy pink sweater. Not like I wore that to a 7th grade dance or anything…On further thinking about this, that was the same dance where one of my classmates wore faux leather pants and a black top. Some of us were really ahead of the fashion curve. I’ll give you a hint: It wasn’t me.

If you followed my Instagram stories (@thehuntressblog) this past weekend, you would see that I DID end up scoring 2 pairs of distressed boyfriend jeans this weekend. I’m linking them here! I’ve also linked other options that I’d consider if I could try them on.

Here’s the link to the Kancan girlfriend jeans I bought from Palmetto Moon!! I’m SO excited I found them! They run True To Size to slightly big, so I would size down.

And I was finally able to locate these these Target jeans! Truth be told, I”m 5′-2″ and 122 lbs. I hold most of my weight in my lower abs and thighs, so often, jeans fit my thighs, but gap at the waist. Or fit at the waist, but are suctioned to my thighs. *shakes head* I bought these in a 0, but when I went online, to link them for you, I saw they had a 00 (which ended up fitting like a 3 or 5) The online description is different from the tag description, but I can confirm that they ARE the same. The physical tag says Wild Fable “High-Rise Mom Jean” in Washed Blue. I did buy them online and had them shipped to my closest store. I posted the Try On in my Stories, and returned the original pair (which is what I’m wearing in the photo). The smaller size fits more like a girlfriend jean – kinda straight leg, not baggy. I’ll wear them this weekend and snap a photo.  Again, they run big, so size down!

Click here for the link to these lovelies!

Leopard FLATS

I used to have a pair of these old Rocket Dogs flats, back when they were popular…

But, now, I’m looking for more of a sneaker, or pointy-toed look. I’m seeing them ALL over Insta, but I’m old-fashioned and I need to try things on. The lovely @sarahknuth just posted these from Nordstrom, but at $89.95, they’re a little too expensive for me…but they DO have hair-on-hide. Damn, that’s how they getchya. These platform sneakers from Amazon could be a good alternate for the Nordstrom pair!

Payless has SERIOUSLY been stepping it up, especially after that commercial where they show people paying 700 bucks for a pair of $20 heels *shakes head* So, I’m on their site right now, and these aren’t leopard flats, but…how cute are THESE?? They are totally a great dupe for this $100 Steve Madden pair! They have faux hair hide too! And they’re only $20.99, which only reinforces why I will NOT spend $90 on leopard sneakers at this point in my life.

I like the idea of a slide. And they’re super trendy, but I want to be able to walk comfortably, like, maybe a couple of blocks, and I’m imagining a lot of clopping around. Sometimes you just KNOW yourself. So, maybe these J. Crew Factory Zoe Calf Hair d’Orsay flats would be better? I get SO many emails from them notifying me of specials, and it looks like they have plenty in stock, so I’ll try them on in the store, and then wait until there’s a sale! And these are a little pricey, at $72.99, but they’re Dr. Scholl’s, so I think they’d be more comfortable, right?

OFF-THE-SHOULDER WHITE TOP

I have a white long-sleeved PIKO top that I slept in once, which resulted in it being permanently stained with self-tanner 😦 I tried everything to get it out (“…and they used Bon Ami”)  I was able to wear it in my Insta stories this past Sunday when I was showing off my new Free People Adella Bralette and these Target Boyfriend Jeans. But I’d like something a little more fitted, casual, and classy. The kind of top you’d wear to brunch that says, “Oh, me? I woke up like this.”

Narrator: But, she did NOT wake up like this.

As I was writing this post, I realized I have about 8,612 white shirts in my closet, one of which happens to be an off-the shoulder white top from Victoria’s Secret a million (OK, 8) years ago. But, it’s super thin and never really lays right. Which always begs the question, “Why did I buy this?” Anyway, I’m still waiting for my super cute white Truly Madly Deeply peplum to arrive from Urban Outfitters, but in the meantime, I’ve found another Truly Madly Deeply top that nails the off-the-shoulder look.

And, although this one’s a sweater, it still has the same effortless vibe I’m after. It’s only $25 but I’ve never ordered from Boutiquefeel before. Is it legit?

And these are basically the same shirt. I think Lulu’s might have more in stock, so I’m linking it herebut I’d probably go with this Guess Factory option, because it’s on sale for only $19.00!And I knowww this isn’t a white top, but it’s cute AF and it needs to go on my “want” list 🙂

On The Hunt: Purses, Pants, and Pom Poms (just for fun)

You ready to talk about some new things I want?? Because there’s always more, and I’m never done! Just part of the joy of life!

Since I’ve made the decision to move, I’ve really been doing a lot of self-reflection about my style. I’ve completely cleaned out my closet by donating all of my “Philly” clothes to GoodWill and posting the rest on PoshMark. It felt SO great to make room for new clothes that feel more me now, which reminds me of this classic 😂

Let’s jump right in!

Monogrammed Scalloped Cross Body Purse The epitome of Southern style is the monogram, so I’ve suddenly started craving some embroidered initials of my own. I found this sweet one, but it’s currently sold out. I definitely put in my email address for when it comes back in stock 😳Plan B: Etsy. They totally delivered and I found several identical bags from different vendors. I think I might go for one of these from PoppyPine.

I already have a hot pink cross body, but isn’t the Coral uh-maz-ing?? All it needs is a seersucker dress, straw hat, and a matching coral lip *swoon* Or, I could do the tan. Or the cork. All with straw hat and coral lip, obviously.

White Denim And I’ve still never got my hands on white denim pants. I did find a pair of these distressed Blue Spice cuties on Bob’s Stores. Never heard of it, but at $29.99, that’s totally reasonable!

For years, my job is to source the most trendy, desirable, and cool AF furniture. So, naturally, I’m exposed to lots of unique pieces…So, naturally, I’ve wanted everything…So, naturally, I’ve changed my mind about what I like…a thousand times. This has resulted in not purchasing anything new (just furniture, duh!) – with the exception of the gorg Montclair sofa from crate&barrel in 2014. But that’s basically like forever ago, so yeah, it’s about time for some new stuff!

Pom Pom Bedding After my last bedroom post, I started to get real antsy about my new bedding. I’ve had my current duvet cover since it rose to “stardom” in 2014. But, it’s overused and I’m over it. I’m a completely different person with a new life in a new city, and I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have my bedding reflect it. *drops mic*

I’ve really been craving some all-white bedding. You know the feeling – climbing into clean, crisp, cool sheets after a hot summer day. Bring on the daydream! Since I am a self-described whimsical woman, I thought maybe Berber Wares’ fun pom pom quilt would be the perfect light-weight cover for the warmer months.

But the price is a bit steep, $244 for a Queen, without matching shams. Yikes. Guess I’m not eating for a month…

So maybe this one by Sweet Home Bedding via Amazon? But it also doesn’t include shams.

Grrr. Is it a quilt with no matching shams OR sleeping with a heavy duvet in a non-airconditioned apartment that keeps me up at night?

And then when the temps drop, I’ll add this winter white duvet cover with matching shams from Amazon.

*Separately, I just cancelled my Prime membership a month ago today, because I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t compulsively buy on Amazon – I prefer to compulsively shop in person – and of course, now I’m shopping A to Z on the daily*

Thanks for listening!

On The Hunt: White Jeans and a Winter Coat

What a bind I’m in…It’s September and I’m still looking for a pair of white jeans. My desire for them makes me want to throw all fashion rules out the window and rock them with any and all fall tops. There. I’ve said it.

Jeans are typically difficult to find, but white ones are even harder. The normal fit I like usually ends up looking too tight in white. You can see the pockets through them, and it ends up being all wrong.

I’m loving the ripped look. I’ve always wanted to wear distressed denim at work. I think I’ve gotten away with it a few times, but the rule is that they must be worn with a super nice top. And definitely some kind of heel.

But, these plain skinnies are nice too! All images via Pinterest (obviously) I found this pair on Pinterest too. Cheap! I just have to try them on first…I know, I know, I need to find a nicer brand that fits just as well as my go-to Indigo Rein and Blue Spice skinnies. Unfortunately, my search results weren’t yielding anything from those either! 😔

Would it be crazy to wear white jeans with a fabulous winter coat? I don’t think it is.

source

Which brings me to my next desire: An olive green, extra long, belted puffer coat. Last March, I was at Macy’s Backstage and every last one of the winter coats was on MAJOR clearance. There were literally hundreds of coats, but only one olive green coat, extra long, belted, puffer…and in my size.

“You don’t need another olive green coat”, I said.

“You only walk across the parking lot to work”, I said.

“You’re too short to have an extra long coat”, I said.

So, I walked away without it. And am bawling my eyes out about it still.
Now that I have several city blocks I have to walk to get to my car, I’m really anticipating the wind tunnels, so I want something to cover my legs. And who can resist a good olive green?? Definitely not me. Of course, now I can’t find what I want. And, of course, I never took a photo of the tag or the coat…Here are some top contenders:

L.L. Bean Ultrawarm Coat, Long in Spruce for $269.00

MICHAEL by Michael Kors, Faux-Fur-Trim Belted Down Puffer Coat in Truffle for $244.99 (although just a few days ago it was $196…)

MICHAEL by Michael Kors, Faux-Fur-Trim Down Coat in Dark Moss for $244.99

MICHAEL by Michael Kors, Faux-Fur-Trim Down Puffer Coat in Flannel for $244.99

Eddie Bauer, Women’s Lodge Down Duffle Coat in Sprig for $202.30

What’s a girl to do?!

Alabaster Lamp UPDATE!!

IMG_9989

I posted about this beautiful alabaster lamp base a few days ago…

Remember when I said:

“This alabaster lamp base was the one thing that I really hated to leave behind. It was a little bit more than I want to spend when I’m on a limited budget. Especially when I don’t really need a lamp. But it was SOOO cute. Such a sweet size, so perfectly carved. I was worried about the wiring, but that’s something that could easily be fixed, right?”

So, on my way to the beach today, I stopped by the Antiques Market to see if I could pick it up. I checked my cell phone photo to see if I could find where it was, based on the other items that were near it and…

It was gone.

Only the ceramic dog and decorative bowl remained. Gahhhhhhhhh! I even went to the cashier, who regretfully informed me that it had sold. Why didn’t I hide it amongst the other crap??? I looked at all of the other treasures that I posted, and everything was still in EXACTLY the same spot! Nothing had sold. I’m convinced nothing in the whole place sold, except my beloved alabaster lamp base 😦

I did find very similar ones online, but the point was that this would be a souvenir from Charleston. It was the special hidden treasure that I found. Uggghhh! That’s what happens when you don’t buy a one-of-a-kind item right away…

Note To Self: BUY EVERYTHING!

On The Hunt: Modern Pantsuit (This One’s For You, Stephanie!)

The Huntress-On The Hunt

A lovely reader, Stephanie, requested that I post about pants suits. Now, this was a challenge for me, as I rarely wear pants, if I can help it (see photo below), and even harder was that I rarely like to match tops and bottoms. But, The Huntress doesn’t stop just because things are hard! I really wanted to help you, Stephanie!

i hate pants

So, here are my inspiration photos from Pinterest:

I love the skinny leg and tailored color block jacket of this suit. It suddenly reminds me of a pair of shoes I had when I was a little girl. They were white with a little gold chain. How fashion forward of me!

suit 1

I know this really isn’t a pants suit, but I imagined this is what the suit above would look like if you removed the jacket. Additionally, it has such a classic look without the blazer, that I still think can be worn in the same instance as a pants suit. It may require a cami, but the sleeves diminish the need for a blazer.suit 2This next one is just as classic as the first, except that this one has the added embellishment. Jessica rocks this sequined trim, but that could easily be swapped out for something simpler, like satin or leather…suit 3See what I mean about the leather? It has that polished, yet bad ass look.
suit 5This might be one of my faves. Look at that peplum (oh god, I’m obsessed with peplums!) It’s just so darn classy! I will have to recreate this with some pieces I have in my closet! So chic, I can’t stand it!

suit 7This suit is more of a stylish combo than a real suit, but I think this is what a modern suit should look like. This pretty patterned jacket is perfectly tailored and the pink pants don’t seem as loud, when paired with the jacket. Everything about this says, “Kate Middleton” to me. suit 6This fun jumpsuit is also a great alternative to a pants suit. It still feels very professional, but this punchy color keeps it feeling young and modern. Great for a young office or a day to night look.

So enough inspiration-where can you find these things?! Well, Express seems to be the best place to start.

Here is the Micro Dot Suit:

And here is the Black Studio Stretch Suit:

Seriously, I may go out and buy some pants suits now! Stephanie, I may be a convert!

On The Hunt: A New Living Room Rug

Hmmm, I found this post from March. Not sure why it never made it on the blog, but, here it is for your viewing pleasure!

The Huntress-On The Hunt

Lately, at work, I have been looking at rugs ALL DAY. But when it comes to my own rug, I’m having some difficulty!

Originally I had a beautiful tone-on-tone zebra one from Rugs USA (MAJORLY on sale, obviously!) You can see it peeking out from under the coffee table in this December 2012 photo. Here is the exact one, but it is out of stock, so this one and this one are similar.

100_2685I loved this rug, but it was wool and shed shed shed all over the place, all of the time. So, one day in a heated moment, the rug was rolled up and stuffed under the guest bed.

Fast forward a year and I thought I’d try again. So then I found this dreamy jute stunner:

rugs usa.maui chunky loop

I was so in love! I moved all of the furniture out of the way and unrolled this beauty. Immediately, fibers flew everywhere, along with little brown sticks…hmmm

And, it was a little too yellow next to my lovely Montclair Sofa. So, she was quickly rolled up, stuffed into the bag, and shipped back.

Fast forward a few months, and I’m still rug-less 😦 What’s a girl to do?!

On The Hunt: Metallic Cowhide Rug

The Huntress-On The Hunt

I bought this cowhide rug from Cowhide Imports a few months ago for work:

COWHIDE IMPORTS.DEVORE METALLIC SILVER ON BEIGE RUGIt’s silver metallic on a beige cowhide. You can see a snippet of it in action here!

image_10I would prefer this one from Cowhide Imports, which is gold on beige…

Cowhide Imports.Metallic Gold on Beige

They’re both on sale right now for $599. That’s still pretty steep…

So, I did a little digging and found this one on RugsUSA. It’s crazily on sale from $1,299 down to $389.70 using the code ‘SUMMER70’.

rugsusa.metallic cowhide rug

I am a little confused though, because the image shows a silver metallic on a grayish hide, while the description says “Metallic on Beige”…that deserves a call to the company.

I found this one from Cowhide Outlet and it’s only $325, but I can’t tell if the hide is white or beige…white is too stark for me. I just love tans and ivories! Why am I such a fan of beige when I’m an interior designer? #beigequeen

cowhide outlet.metallic hide

I found several other companies, but nothing was really cheaper…

Amazon

Cowhides International

eBay

eCowhides

Even my trusty Wayfair source only offered me one option, and it’s too expensive…

If anyone has any luck finding a metallic cowhide that’s closer to $200 (that could be a sale price or with a coupon code), let me know!
