Greetings from Charleston!

Hello Ya’ll! (OK, I’ll stop)

If you follow me on the ‘Gram (sarahashley612), you will see that I have been heading down south. #sarahdoescharleston

I have long contemplated moving to Charleston, South Carolina for 4 years. Why Charleston? Why not Charleston…the vibe of the city is just *heaven*. Every building has a story to tell and is maintained so beautifully. The old cobblestones, bricks, lanterns, piazzas, weather, palm trees, shops, and award winning restaurants are all reasons why it’s been ranked The #1 City in the World by Travel + Leisure in 2015. I’ve always loved the South, so when I talked about moving here, Charleston was constantly suggested. Not to mention, every time I saw a dreamy photo of a place I felt like I needed to go, the caption always confirmed the location…Charleston.

I made 2 trips this past year to explore downtown and the suburbs, and I still felt like I needed to see what this path meant for me, so it was about time that I bossed up and made it happen! Don’t get me wrong, I have everything going for me at home, but I felt like I couldn’t move forward with any of it until I figured out what role Charleston would play in my life. It may just be a fun experience to tell my kids about (lesson: have courage), a good time to continue some emotional healing (yep, still working on it), and also give me more confidence in being independent (get it, girl!), or solidify why I need to own a home here at some point in my life (which means I need to become a multimillionaire AND also marry a multimillionaire…)

In order to “test” it out and really take advantage of the experience, I decided to come down for 2 months. I figured out a way to continue working at my spectacular company, found an incredible FURNISHED apartment in a “Charleston Single” house right downtown, and hopefully made a connection to help a local interior designer (fingers crossed!) So far, it’s been just the kind of trip I thought it would be. A chance to be alone with my thoughts and fall in love with where I am in my life now.

It’s working.

What I Wore: Vegas Edition!

The Huntress-What I Wore

What’s a girl to do when she is offered a chance to go to Las Vegas for a fun-filled Valentine’s Day weekend? Well, you say, “My bags are packed!”

Before I left, I took some snaps of the outfits I planned. And then, of course, I’ll show you how it all panned out!

You know, things rarely go as planned, so luckily, I packed some extra outfits *just in case*, which came in handy (this isn’t my first rodeo…)

Unfortunately, this hot leather dress’ zipper was not cooperating. I’m sure the cookies I’ve been eating lately didn’t help the situation…or maybe it was the fact that it was only $10…

Luckily, I brought this graphic little number…

Word of the Year: 2015

2015 source

Happy New Year!!

Instead of choosing a resolution, Layla at The Lettered Cottage chooses a Word of the Year. I think this is so “wonder-full” (which happens to be Layla’s word this year), because it allows you to keep one goal in mind and do whatever you need to do to make that phrase come to fruition.

WORDOFTHEYEARsource

2014 was extremely challenging for me. I hate to talk about really personal things, but here it goes. In August 2014, after 8 years together, HJ decided that he was not ready to be a husband and called off our wedding 3 weeks before the date.

It was the most devastating thing I have ever experienced (hence the short blonde hair and new clothes). But do you know what my word was for 2014? It was Love. And that’s exactly what I did. I loved him enough to let him go and learn about himself and I loved myself enough to love me the way I wanted to be loved. To me, that meant doing things to make me feel pretty, like a sassy, new, blonde hair cut.

It meant spending money on adult purchases, like this beautiful sofa from Crate and Barrel.

It meant accepting love and support from others, including these encouraging letters (some from strong women I don’t even know!)

loveletters

It meant traveling to Ireland by myself to see my cousin and best friend, Rachel, so we could be together during the hardest time in my life

But now, it is a New Year! And so here is my word:

Growsource

Grow.

This is the perfect word for me this year as I experience my life in a new way. It is so scary and yet so freeing to know that I have so many new choices and paths that my life can take. I am so ready for all of the opportunities for me to Grow in 2015.

Here’s to a New Beginning!

New Car

I bought a new car! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I don’t think I can do enough smiley faces to show how happy I am  🙂 Meet Blanca!

I had a silver Volkswagen Beetle since I was 17 years old. (Thanks to my loving parents <3) It was sooo cute and bubbly, and every time someone asked me what kind of car I had, they always had the same response when I answered, “That is so you!”. I loved that car. I was able to zip around and easily find and park in spots that were way too small for any other cars. And although Bugley was basically a round car, she never objected to overly successful trips to HomeGoods and generously let me pack her all the way to the top with square objects.

But the past few years, she was in need of repairs, and I was in need of something that would fit my working girl lifestyle. So I started lusting after a white Honda CR-V.

HJ and I looked for weeks for a slightly used one (2010), since I liked the look better than the new ones, and also so it would fit in my price range. After I took one out for a spin, I was really “cr-v”ing the car! HJ really negotiated (maybe I should change his initials to MN for Master Negotiator…) got me a great deal, and after 5 hours of inspecting, bartering, and paperwork, we drove her of of the lot that same night!

It was emotional, because I had become so attached to Bugs, but it was soooooooo worth it. AND after celebrating Christmas with my Dad and Barb last night, she received a gift herself! Her very own name plate! (Picture coming soon!)

Thankful for a Short Week

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you enjoyed spending time with your families and friends. HJ and I did lots of traveling along the East Coast, but it was wonderful, and today, on our way home, we made a pit stop in NYC to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular!

source

It was really wonderful and definitely got me in the mood for Christmas! It’s just something that I think you have to see just once if you get the chance 🙂 We planned on going closer to Christmas, but the tickets were getting expensive! Since we decided to go today, I was able to get better seats for only $85.00 each! (Just in case you were wondering, we had seats in the Orchestra level, Row E, seats 412 and 413. They were really good, because we were close enough to see all of the detail, but far enough away so we could see the whole show, which always includes projections and dancers throughout the whole auditorium)

I didn’t take any photos of what I wore this long weekend, because most of the outfits are repeats of my fav work clothes (I guess that happens as you get older-your work and play clothes are the same…) Anyway, here is Monday through Wednesday!

Monday:

Hoop Earrings: Express

Black Top: H&M

Purple Scarf: TJ Maxx, $12.99

Striped Maxi Skirt: Loehmann’s Online, $24.00

Shoes: TJ Maxx, Lucky Brand, $29.99

Tuesday:

So the first 2 pairs were $60, but then the last 2 were only $30 and I had FREE shipping. That’s why I am the Huntress! 🙂

Wednesday:

Periwinkle Knit Tunic: Target

Purple Necklace: Target

Another Post!

So I went away this weekend for a little boating excursion with Hunky J’s family up north. I knew it was going to be 70s during the day, and much cooler at night. Take a look at my outfits! And HJ wondered why it was taking me so long to pack…HA! I needed to document the process so I could share!

Mini Getaway

So, in keeping with my promise, here is a “little” peek at me and HJ’s weekend!

He was really not prepared to see what he was about to see…We went to Roadside America in Shartlesville, PA. Its an amazing 6,000 sqft. display of tiny models depicting America throughout the 1600s to 1960s. Every building was made by hand! (Insert bad Advil commercial parody-“And if you’ve ever built a wood model”, *pause* “You know how hard that is…”)-I hope everyone has seen that awful commercial, and the extreme closeup view of that girl’s unfortunate mug…Anyway…

I didn’t get any pictures during the Night Scene, but its cool-All of the main overhead lights are slowly turned off, and the model lights slowly turn on, and suddenly, you really feel like you are flying over a small town at night. It is amazing that all of the homemade magnet motors and wiring have lasted all this time!

And last but not least,

Some good, old-fashioned Pennsylvania Anthracite! I pretty much love that its from Reading and the same place Pops gets his coal for his house!

Overall, it was a really good time and brought me back to my childhood. It only took about an hour to get there, and was a really fun day trip to share with someone you love!

Weekend Excursion

I would like to share some pictures that Hunky J and I took this weekend when we visited my old stomping grounds, Hopewell Village in Elverson, PA. I think that some of these photos may make it up on the walls of TTC.

Ha! Pay close attention to my face in this one, cause the next one shows how I really feel about large animals with heads almost the size of my whole body…
Here we are next to the original furnace, and the “pig iron” of course (its down on the bottom right)
And now, I am about to make a mold for a stove door
See!
Oh, and there is the cutest little cottage on the right. Inside, there are some wonderful built-ins and I believe there is a fireplace hiding behind that far left cabinet!
Oh, and those colonials had fabulous taste, isn’t this mustard hutch to die for?! (ok, so I’m sure its not original, but there had to have been someone back then who cared about having a nice-looking home!)
Oh, and here is HJ trying to pump some water. Better luck next time love ❤
Here is the Big House, see HJ chillin’ on the porch?
The General Store:
This one’s for you Dad, some Good Pennsylvania Anthracite!
And now the sweetest part of our weekend!
Apple Picking! We got some real beauties! York, Staymen, and Baldwin, which was our favorite 🙂 Many of the apples in their orchard go back to original flavors from the 1700s! They were delicious! Spots and all!
Here you go!
Happy Fall!

Vaca Pics

Good Morning! Today I want to do a quick recap of my vacation 2 weeks ago. It was for relaxing and spending time with those who matter. My Mom and Step-Dad, Doc let me and my old friend, Heather, use a week of their timeshare in St. Thomas and my Dad and Step-Mom, Barbie came to visit us halfway through the week. Here are some of the highlights of this trip:

I Want To Go Back To The Islands…

This weekend, HJ and I went to Block Island in Rhode Island. Have you ever been? It was WONDERFUL, more than wonderful…heavenly 🙂 HJ’s family has some generous friends that let us stay at their beautiful home, just a stroll away from a private beach. We had such a perfect weekend. It was so quiet and peaceful. Let me share our adventures with you!

This is where we ate breakfast every morning! If I could, I would blog from here every day!

And here is the view from the balcony:

And here’s our journey to the beach!

Well, we couldn’t relax the whole time! HJ and his brother went parasailing.

They were up so far, you can’t even see them!

While they were doing that, HJ’s mom and I went to see animals behind The Manisses:

Have you ever seen one of these? Its called a Zedonk…1/2 Zebra, 1/2 Donkey…

This one’s for you Dad:

Then we went to The Springhouse. The food was good, and the view was even better!

Then we drove around on one of these:

to check out these:

Then one with me and my boys before we had to leave…

Until next time!
